Westminster North

The parliamentary constituency of Westminster North, situated in the north of the City of Westminster, has been re-created in time for the next UK general election.

Westminster North previously existed as a parliamentary constituency between 1983 and 1997 and was served by Conservative MP Sir John Wheeler throughout this period.

Following The Boundary Commission for England’s country-wide review of constituency boundaries it was confirmed that the old Regent’s Park and Kensington North seat will lose all of its Kensington wards and gain Lancaster Gate and Bayswater from Cities of London and Westminster.

Westminster North contains a number of deprived areas as well as some more affluent areas that between them make it a key marginal seat. While the Westminster wards that make up the Cities of London and Westminster constituency to the south all return Conservative councillors, the four wards in Westminster City Council that returned Labour Councillors at the last local election are found in this constituency.

The ten electoral wards that form Westminster North are:

  • Abbey Road

  • Bayswater
  • Church Street
  • Harrow Road
  • Lancaster Gate
  • Little Venice
  • Maida Vale
  • Queen’s Park
  • Regent’s Park
  • Westbourne

Karen Buck currently holds a majority of 6,131 in Regent’s Park and Kensington North and Anthony Wells estimates that Westminster North would be Conservative target seat number 75.
